I’m meeting an old friend in Chicago in August for a weekend. Anyone ever stay here?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I’m interested in your thoughts or other hotel recommendations.

I don’t travel a whole lot, but Holliday Inn Express always comes in clutch.

I stayed at the Hotel Indigo in the north suburb of Vernon Hills, when I was in town for my job interview here 2 1/2 years ago. It was a nice place. I now work at that job, and it’s where we have all our international colleagues and customers who are visiting stay.
I will pretty much always recommend AirBnB though. Almost always beats hotels in both quality and price.

Not a bad hotel for the price from what I’ve heard. Other recommendations are:
Hotel Palomar
Acme Hotel Company
Dana (too trendy for my tastes but people speak highly of it)
Millennium Knickerbocker (historic)
The Tremont
I absolutely love Renaissance Blackstone and Palmer House, but not in the Gold Coast/River North neighborhoods.

I lived like two blocks away from there for a semester in college. That area of the Gold Coast neighborhood is called the Viagra Triangle, due to the bars being full of old men and younger women... Take that however you want.
There’s a lot of bars on Division. A. Lot. It’s loud and smells like stale beer and police close the road if it gets bad enough, which was most weekends.
It is incredibly close to a Red Line El stop, so you can get anywhere in the city pretty easy. It’s a nice, “safe” tourist area, it’s just bro-central.
Oak St beach is very nice and a short walk, if you have free time. Gold Coast Bentley is also a few blocks away and is full of insane cars to look at.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn downtown a few years ago, and was pleased. Nice place at a fair price.

I’ve not stayed at that specific Hotel Indigo, but I stay with them a lot when I travel and I’ve always been satisfied by my stays. That’s not a bad spot in town to stay at all, either.

Rennaissance Blackstone is nice. Tapas place inside was pretty bomb last time I was there.

Never stayed there, but I am a gold member of Hotel Indigo. I’ve stayed with them all over the US. Their hotels are usually in historic buildings that are well preserved and actually worth walking around the hotels to see the history. I stayed at the one in San Antonio next to the Alamo and it was amazing. I was poking at the steam engine in the basement for a bit. (I’m an engineer, so it is Engineering porn to me).
Their breakfast is usually pretty good too.
I like them better than the other chains just due to the preservation of history.
